Summit Intake Process

FIRST DAY AT SUMMIT

Scholars will receive orientation materials during the zero period. Duncanville ISD students who have been assigned to the Opportunity Center must go through an intake process.  Orientation group sessions occur every day  throughout the school year and a student who has been assigned to the OC is given a specific orientation date by their home campus. The student and their parent/legal guardian must attend.

ATTENDANCE, SCHEDULE, AND ABSENCES
  • School Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Summit, our Disciplinary Alternative Education Program, aligns with the Duncanville ISD school calendar, which includes holidays, breaks, and staff in-service days.

ARRIVAL AND TARDINESS POLICY
  • Doors open at 7:10 a.m.

  • Both male and female students from all grades enter through the same doors: males on the right and females on the left.

  • Late arrivals (post 7:30 a.m.) must use the front entrance and register on the Tardy log.

TRANSPORTATION

Parents are responsible for their students transportation to Summit in the morning. Students may walk, ride bicycles, or ride with a parent or other responsible parties.

Transportation is only provided after school to students.

DISMISSAL
  • A systematic, single-line car pick-up is utilized.

  • Students wait in classrooms until their name is announced.

  • Car riders are prioritized, followed by walkers.

METAL DETECTORS AND SEARCHES

Upon entering the building each day, all students must pass through a  metal detector, empty pockets, and turn them inside out. Shoes and socks will also be checked daily.

  • The nature of assistance ranges from scheduling to transition support.

  • Educational material aligns with district standards.

  • Standardized tests follow state/district schedules.

  • Classwork comes directly from the home campus teacher and is facilitated by a certified teacher at the Summit.

  • No supplies are needed.
  • The Summit provides all students with school supplies.

  • Options:
    School lunch purchase
    packed lunch from home.
  • Beverages:
    Sealed plastic bottles/cans only.
    No glass containers.

  • Breakfast is served daily.

  • Students eligible for free or reduced lunches will continue receiving them at Summit.

  • Using computers at Summit is an earned privilege. Misuse might lead to loss of access.

DRESS CODE AND GROOMING
  • The district's Secondary Dress Code is integrated with Summit’s guidelines.

  • Prohibited Items:

    • Clothing with inappropriate language or images.

    • Torn pants with holes above mid-thigh.

    • Sagging pants or visible underwear.

    • Hooded garments indoors.

    • Slides, flip-flops, slip-on.

    • Electronic devices, metal jewelry, hats, chains, spikes, bandanas.

    • Items promoting gang affiliations.

    • Backpacks, book bags, lunch boxes, binders, purses, wallets.
